On the basis of archival documents, the book presents the history of the creation of the first steamships and the organization of steamship communications in the south of Russia in the first half of the 19th century. It offers detailed data on the Black Sea steamers of the last century, and describes the shipbuilders who created them. The original design solutions proposed by shipbuilders at the turn of the transition from sailing to steam fleet are considered.
